About Jake

Jake offers a unique political background having run for Iowa Secretary of State in 2010 earning what was at the time the second highest total vote and in his second run in 2014 earning the highest vote total in a four-way race in the 40 year history of the Libertarian Party of Iowa. From 2008 to 2010, he served as an Alternate Representative to Region 6 for the Libertarian National Committee. He has also served as the Iowa Coordinator for Congressman Bob Barr’s Presidential campaign as well as acted as interim Iowa Coordinator for former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson’s presidential campaign. In addition, in 2013-2014, Jake worked with the State of Iowa to fix a major voter registration issue impacting thousands of Iowans.  Jake also fought to keep the state of Iowa from prosecuting the late Benton Mackenzie, an Iowa cancer patient, who was prosecuted by the state for using his medication.

Porter has a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from AIB College of Business in Des Moines.

Today, Jake lives in Council Bluffs where he is self-employed helping clients with marketing, website design, and small business development as well as co-founding his own start-up company YCYOR, LLC.  He has previously worked for both Yahoo and Apple.
